August 6, 2020, the detrimental day for the Capital state of Lebanon, Beirut. Two colossal Beirut Blast had occurred, which had shaken almost all the state and could be viewed from a few miles away. This incident deceased 171 people and wounded more than thousands of people, approximately 6,000 in numbers.

This blast happened adjacent to the Central District and the port of Beirut at 6:07 p.m., on the evening of Tuesday. The highly populated place and the place where most of the foreigners visit and reside.

Cause of Explosion

According to the Lebanese Government, this origin of the explosion was due to 2,700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, which was contained in the warehouse, in an unsafe manner, for more than six years.

The explosion turned many buildings and roads into debris, covering almost 10 kilometers away from it. It was felt by the people in Cyprus, as well, which is around 240 kilometers away from the Capital state.

What is this chemical compound mainly used for?

A chemical commonly used as the main ingredient of agricultural fertilizers. It is also the major component used widely throughout the industries, in manufacturing the explosives like TNT and RDX.

According to the United Nations classification of dangerous goods, this chemical is graded 5.1 and is not an explosive compound, in pure form. But it is decisive when combining with fuel or other impurities or losing stability under external factors.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency,

“In general, the conditions of Ammonium Nitrate storage are crucial to the safety and stability of the Ammonium Nitrate. Materials co-located or stored with AN may play a role in its sensitivity to the explosion.”

Aftereffects on Beirut Blast: People are on the streets, protesting and demanding

The Lebanese, are on their own, supporting their people with food, shelter, and medics.

As the government is not releasing any funds to provide the basic necessities to the people who are mucked up. Many people and buildings are on the fritz around the location of the explosion.

People are out on the streets protesting for their rights and appealing for the resignation of the President due to his misuse of power and corruption.

Response to this crisis from around the world

Most of the Lebanese are already on red alert and require shelter, food, and medical supplies to aid the suffering ones.

Canada and Pakistan are the first countries that have reached for assistance. Canada has given assistance in the form of relief funds of about $5 million. So the emergency services and other people working for the sake of humanity should be kept moving on.

UNICEF and the Lebanese Red Cross also reacted to this situation and had liberated on-ground hospitals and paramedics team.

Beirut Blast Has Recalled The History

According to the witnesses, this blast had recalled them, the ‘Nuclear bombardment at Hiroshima and Nagasaki’.

This blitz had occurred by the Enola Gay, the U.S. warplane who had mercilessly dropped “Little Boy” which was an untested ‘Uranium-235 gun-assembly bomb’ on Hiroshima, on August 6, 1945, and then dropping another atomic bomb “Fat Man” on Nagasaki, on August 9, 1945, during World War 2.

The consequences, Japan had to face was in the form of defeat, They had surrendered after watching their own carnage.

Recently, this year, the 75th anniversary was announced to honor the deceased and lost souls, with a two-minute silence, in both of the cities and this was also done at the same time at which the explosion had taken place.
